Who we are
Wax Fire and Rescue is located in Grayson County Kentucky along the banks of Nolin Lake. The Department is one of seven volunteer departments in the county. The department currently covers 49.2 Square miles. Those 49.2 square miles consist of 5,976 properties (Grayson County PVA), an Army Corps of Engineers campground with 110 camping spots, a local marina, county water treatment plant, multiple RV Parks, boat storage facilities, and several local businesses.
Wax Fire and Rescue was established in 1979 and operated out of a single station. In the past 40 years, the department has built two additional stations and increased the amount of equipment used by the department. Between the three stations, we currently have in service three engines, two tankers, a brush truck, rescue ATV, support truck and an aluminum bottom fire/dive boat.
The department currently operates with 20 volunteer firefighters.
The department responds to various types of calls including but not limited to, fires (structural and other), motor vehicle collisions, high and low angle rope rescues, searches and rescues on land and water, and medical calls/EMS assist. The department also responds to mutual-aid calls from neighboring departments on land and by water.
